Adding an IP Based Virtual Host to Apache

From Zanecorpwiki

Jump to: navigation, search
  1. get/assign the domain an IP address
  2. purchase domain from the domain registrar.com
  3. add the domain to your primary and secondary DNS servers and add the root and 'www' hosts entries for the domain
  4. add the virtual host to apache
  5. add the new IP address to the appropriate Ethernet device

I use http://www.domainmonger.com as my registrar, they've got very decent prices, they'll do the DNS hosting for free unless you have tremendous traffic, and they don't bug me with bullshit up sales or fuck with your domains (that I've seen). DO NOT USE godaddy.com. You'll get good service from the expensive guys, like Verisign, but there are plenty of good registrar's out there that will cost you a lot less, and give as good or better service. There are plenty of shady registrar's, so spend 15 minutes Googling before choosing a provider.
