Idea: I want to put a tent-like gazebo on my office deck so I can work outside.
Basic Structure
I like this one from Lowe's. It's the right size and the sliding side curtains--both a netting and solid curtain on each side--are awesome. However, the reviews are unanimous that the canopy is crap and won't even last a month.[notes 1] They have a few other models, but they all have the some problem.
This one from Target is a little cheaper, a little smaller, lacks solid curtains, but much better reviews. One reviewer recommends "UV canvas protectant" from a marine supply store applied to the new canopy top to extend the life.
In general, the canvas canopies seem to have limited life. I know a higher quality is possible, but my guess is that the economics keep them out of the market.
The Coolaro USA canvas coverings seems is a high quality canvas.
Furnishing and Style
- with a free hand, might do something like this, though do want low loungable furniture
- would want removable/slidable sides so it can be opened, with screens, or blocked
- a draped ceiling is probably high on my list, though a total affectation
- candle chandelier is a given (and may be conflict with the draped ceiling ;)
- must be able to move around to accommodate inflatable pool
- bolster couch; can be bought for 750, seems easy to make/assemble for much less
- Khalil Maamoon or Sahara Mirror Hookah
Notes
- ↑ It's really cool that Lowes and other retailers don't censor the negative reviews. It's a common charge that big companies can never look at the long term, but this is a case where they're clearly looking at the long term. They may have lost a sale, but my long term loyalty has increased.
