My initial response was lukewarm, but it was an interesting movie to think about. DVD.

Summary

Interesting idea, well acted, well put together movie. A number of faces from the indie scene. Really a pretty good indie movie... Except the main character is not sympathetic. At first, I was there with him, but as the movie went along, I disengaged and by the end, I just didn't care. It's an interesting movie to dissect, though.

Details and Notes

Minor spoilers.

The mother said it best: "No one can get through him." The movie is more or less the tale of a man absorbing and events which would bring anyone else to rage. Instead, he takes them in and digests them away into nothing. It's interesting, but ends up being rather clinical. The man at the end of the movie is the man at the beginning of the movie.

Which is an interesting idea in-and-of-itself. I also have to admit that the climax was well done and had me going--before it turned out it was really nothing. This idea of absorbing events and keeping faith would be interesting in the context of faith, or love, or something, but in a sports fan it just seems sad. I think that's the idea. Not that it's sad, necessarily, but that faith is sad? I don't know. The more I talk about it, the more interesting it seems, but unless you're in RTF or just into dissecting films, I don't know... the analysis of the movie is more interesting than the movie itself.
