Black Death

The problem with this movie is it starts off so strong. Wonderful scenery, excellent costumes, good acting, and seemingly well paced. One could easily believe that one was being drawn into a rich and complex morality play that asks what is the result when faith becomes dogma, reason is replaced by creed, and death is become a mercy?

But then it all falls apart.

Spoiler. But you're not missing much by cutting to the chase.

All the richness that I thought was building just puffs away and it turns out "the point" is that nothing special is going on, people are just shit. Even when it doesn't make any sense. Like, why did the rich trick Osmond into killing his girl friend? It would have made far more sense for her to leave her un-drugged. Osmond would have turned, she could probably get with him... maybe split them up later... whatever...

And the bit about Ulrich carrying the plague. Like that was the plan all along? I guess maybe he caught it from the other guy so it's a "happy coincidence"?

The story just lacks all intention. And I *hate* when they do the "now he sees her in all women" thing with a literal "this is his POV, see, it looks like the which" but in reality, she looks totally different. It's just not credible. His revenge is now to kill innocent girls? Makes no sense at all.

Ugg... this movie is terrible.
