City Ninja
From Zanecorpwiki
Part of the Martial Arts: 50 Movie Pack, this particular film is filled with TnA and overly complicated plot. Apparently, this is also a public domain movie.
Summary
This film is justs chocked full of TnA. More than I've ever seen in any other Hong Kong movie... which I assume it is, but it's hard to find much info. I think it's trying to be the story of a gritty up from the streets fighter--or fighters as there are is a secondary protagonist--fighting their way up from the streets but caught in a web of not so much intrigue as contrived complication.
Notes and Detail
There is a truism in the C movie that writers mistake complication for interest. Since their techniques are simplistic, the complication is manifested by contrived plot points and people saying things, This is complicated... before launching into an explanation of what's going on. In short, the movie has a lot of moving parts and makes no sense. Well, maybe it does make sense, but you have to pay real close attention and it's not really worth it.
There's the main protagonist, but there's another fighter kind of paralleling him. They're both portrayed as good hearted thugs, except at one point the main guy, wearing a very out of character suit, runs into the secondary guy and starts explaining this complicated back story about how they're really working for the same guy or something. No idea how he knows any of this...
The movie tries so hard but is so poorly executed that we end up with a train wreck of a plot. The action in the film is decent, until the end, which is dominated by the secondary protagonist in a sword fight. He's no good at swords, however, so everything just falls apart. The entire thing is a clinic on how to fuck up a movie.
