Summary

I can't say if this is par for the course or not, but a 30+ minute infomercial for Team System touted as "interviews with the best coders in the craft" is bullshit. Any tools infomercial would have been bad, but this is an MS product and the guy's talking about version control and says he's never even looked at subversion, talking about how great his product is because it's better than Source Safe. I'm thinking it's a massive paper tiger.

It wasn't terrible, and honestly if it had been with a guy talking about tools I used, I would have probably been interested, but then someone else would be bored. It just wasn't at the right level for what it claimed to be. Learning to use Team System really well has nothing to do with craft.

And I'm sorry... this is completely biased... but I just don't buy that there are many craft aware developers working on MS platforms out there. Microsoft is fine for what it is, and MS coders are fine for what they do, but "software as a craft" is not part of what Microsoft is about. As a tools, baked in features company, craft is antithetical to Microsoft. As a result, the MS coder may be great at, efficient, productive, whatever, but you're not going to find many, if any, craft developers in MS land because the landscape is hostile to craft.
