Enable Root in OS X

It's necessary to act as root to do certain things. Root is by default disabled. To enable it:

  1. Applications -gt; Utilities -gt; Directory Utility
  2. click the 'lock changes' icon in the lower left hand corner
  3. Edit -gt; Enable Root account
