Flexing
From Zanecorpwiki
I'm fine with literal flexing. It may be silly, but it does no harm. On the other hand metaphorical flexing is pretty much always a bad thing.
Most irksome: political flexing. Recently there was a cock up with Obama announcing that he'd be meeting with the House and Senate leadership from both parties to talk about what they could do this lame duck session. Perfectly reasonable and commendable. He could, of course, have just moved forward with the Dems while they still have power.
But the day before the meeting was supposed to happen (on 11-18-2010), the Republicans from House and Senate said it would have to be moved till after Thanksgiving. The Dems are saying it's just more stalling and political maneuvering while the Republicans claim the meeting was never run by them and was presented as a fait accompli.
Who the fuck cares? Look, if that's true, then shame on Obama for flexing. But whether or not it's true, when when the President wants to meet with everyone to find a way to do something for this snarled cluster fuck of policies we have going on, you just do it. I can 100% guarantee that the Republicans are not doing anything more important, and could have easily made this situation a win-win for them and the American people by simply chastening the President, but still attending. Instead, their first instinct was to sacrifice the interests of the people.
This does not auger well.
