Fortune Cookies

I'd thought it would be neat to use fortune cookies as a nice device in a "urban fantasy" kind of story. The character would derive powers by "invoking" the fortunes. They had to be real fortune cookies, and I imagine he (I'm thinking of a male protagonist because it's what I know best) would have to get them fairly. I.e, can't just grab a handful, can't make every meal, etc. They have to be "naturally occurring fortune cookies".

At one point, I started collecting the slips to use as source for this, but I've lost most of them over time. Time to start writing them down:

  • "Do or do not. There is no try." - At first I thought "50% chance of success", but I think this is actually more powerful. It can only be used once, but that one use can either guarantee success, or guarantee failure of some action. The latter being useful to foul another character's plan.
  • "A cheerful message is on it's way to you." - Didn't know what to do with this one, and so pulled another cookie... which had the same message! (I know it's got to happen sometime, but it's still fun to say, "It's truly destined.")
  • "Magnanimity will bring you universal respect"
  • "Never be less than your dreams."
  • "Fortune knocks at least once on every man's door. Be sure to answer."
  • "Love begets love."
  • "A perfect statue never from a bad mould."
  • "A hunch is creativity trying to tell you something."
  • "As the purse is emptied the heart is filled."
  • "Fame, riches and romance are yours for the asking."
  • "Allow your curiosity to lead you to the answer you seek."
  • "You naturally accumulate knowledge and lock (sic) at its broader implications."
  • "It doesn't matter. Who is without flow?"
  • "A tamed mind brings happiness."
  • "Do not give up, the beginning is always the hardest."
  • "You will have a chance soon to make a profitable transaction."
  • "He who laughs at himself never runs out of things to laugh at."
