• after the first two episodes, the story jumps back to fill in the back story
• surprisingly dark; the core story involves two kids trying to resurrect their mother with terrible consequences; the early episodes are all rather macabre with few exceptions
• the sixth episode is positively disturbing

  • "human alchemy" is supposed to be rare and forbidden, but in the first two stories, the kids deal with practitioners
  • can be very heavy handed at times, though this is consistent with a certain style one finds
  • the "pastoral" aesthetic reminds me of Last Exile (though this is a common theme, not steam punk exactly, but similar)
