Get to Know American Film
From Zanecorpwiki
- Bringing Up Baby (1938) : I've always loved this movie, and was gratified though somehow surprised to find it on the AFI's Top 100 American Movies] list. Probably because it's just a really simple comedy. On the other hand, to do a simple comedy that's now over 70 years old and neither dated nor stale is really an amazing accomplishment.
- On the Waterfront (1952)
- Ben Hur (1959) : one golden era romanticizing another, Christian (original story much more so), individual, adversity, Protestant, family values; one of the last golden age films
- Dr. Strangelove (1964) : cold war, satire
- The Godfather (1972)
- Apocalypse Now (1979)
- Schindler's List (1992) : epic with a purpose
- Good Dick (2008) : I love big budget movies and think it's wonderful that we can just crank out entertaining, completely forgettable movies. The interesting stuff, though, is on the edges.
