Tripels are not my favorite and this is no exception. This is an ambitious, complex beer. Not bad, but out of my own taste boundaries and too muddy to my taste.. When cold, a sour taste dominates the flavor profile. To my taste, the flavors improved if I let the beer warm to room temperature (70-75 degrees). The flavor was still muddy, but the sour taste did not dominate so much.
At 9.5% alcohol, this is a strong beer, and strong beers are always hard to deal with from a taste perspective. With the already complex Belgian style, the high alcohol content makes this beer a even more unwieldy.
For whatever reason, this beer (or very similar ones) is four for four with women and oh for four with men. I haven't been able to find anything on gender related taste disposition, but it would be interesting to follow up on the question.
