Good Dick
From Zanecorpwiki
Love it. DVD. I don't usually put up soundtracks, but this one is original, and really good.
Summary
I love the "it could be real" genre of indie films. It's hard to make a believable film that's still interesting and engaging, but this film does it effortlessly. What's even more impressive is that it's sweet. A sweet dysfunctional romance.
I almost feel you could sum up this movie in one word: organic. The dialog and story just seem to grow.
Notes and Details
Well acted, well cast, well directed, but it's got to be the writing that makes this movie special. The dialog and pacing, what we see and what we don't see are really well done. Really, all the pieces of this movie are just spot on, but they're all coming up to the standard set by the writing.
What's most striking are the irrational conversations that make you think, "Oh, these are real people." It's irrational, but not in an insane way. Just the way we're all irrational. It's not polished or particularly witty. It's what the characters would say, making the plot and everything else feel so natural.
This is not a "message movie", but my takeaway was this very clear idea of redemption. Nothing mystical or superhuman. Just getting past something hard and real and getting to a better place.
There's something about the old independent video store and indie film makers. They love them as backdrops, and I gotta say, I do to. TODO: I can think of at least one other than Clerks, but can't recall the title. Link this up...
