Hellboy
From Zanecorpwiki
Summary
A very successful comic book action movie. The movie is well paced, well acted, and well directed.
Details and Notes
I'm a huge fan of the graphic novel's deeply resigned tone, and the movie has some of that, though the translation isn't perfect. Part of the problem is the medium. Mignola's art fits the novel's perfectly, and part of the effect is the slight elongation, the indistinct edges. It's a gloomy style that makes for gritty fantasy in a way that live action film never will.
Abe's character comes the closest, and kudos to Del Toro for casting a stick thin mime as the part (though the guy from Frasier does the voice). Hellboy is perhaps a bit too bulky, but Perlman is an excellent choice as well.
