Johnny Mnemonic

Summary
Based on a short story by the father of Cyberpunk, and with a pretty interesting cast (including Beat Takeshi), you could have high hopes for the film. Especially, if like me, you are a fan of the post-apocalyptic/dystopian genre.
You will be disappointed.
I think part of the problem of the film is that it doesn't really convey the dystopian future all that well. The big bad corporate oligarchy never really comes across, and the rag tag rebels don't feel fleshed out.
Another big problem is that much of the story, and the climax, is quite literally happening in Johnny's head. The effects--even the Net interaction--is perfectly fine, if sometimes hokey, until the end, which way overreaches what was possible at the time.
Details and Notes
Keanu Reeves is not, IMO, a problem for the film. He's certainly had some laughable movies, but the failing in this film cannot be fairly laid at his feet. I'm a legitimate fan of Keanu as "cool action guy", and that's his character here.
