Kung Fu Master
From Zanecorpwiki
Lots of fun. DVD
Summary
From the opening "coffin fight" scene, I could have sworn I'd seen this before. It was a blue shifted, wire flying, feudal, costumed fight fest like I used to watch with my Grandfather at the Hogg in the mid 90's. (Though this was filmed in 2008.) Great stuff.
I have to say, though, I it went a little long. The mass fights leading up to the boss battle were tedious for me. I find the "fight horde's of NPCs" are usually pretty boring, and the apprentice fights are a bit redundant as well.
Overall, though, lots to enjoy. Plenty of fun fight sequences, and even after they start to wear a little thin, you can start appreciating all the camp and spectacle. A good film to watch with a friend.
Details and Notes
Alternate title: Legend of Shaolin Kungfu II: Thirteen Cudgel Monks.
This is one of those films that really shows it's theater and dance roots. Like the early western big budget pictures that were just a step away from Broadway, this is just a step or two away from the opera.
What's with the evil boss's weird bench fetish?
Favorite over-the-top move: twice the master blocks a knife thrust... with his throat. Then counters... also with his throat. That's some specialized training. Actually, there are other foiled throat attacks.
