La Horde

Forgettable.

Summary

La Horde starts off with some promise, a nice dark aesthetic, but it never develops past the first five minutes. You don't need to be really creative, I've got nothing against a solid, straightforward movie. The problem is La Horde isn't solid. The interpersonal drama fizzles, none of the character's make much sense, and despite all the gore and blood, no one ever seems to take any of it seriously.

The characters are all super tough guys (even the token girl) and this leads to a very one note movie and a lot of stupid behavior. No one ever seems to take the situation really seriously and, despite the fact that people are being killed all around them, the group flares up over relatively (in the face of a zombie apocalypse at least) minor issues over who's got the biggest dick in the group.

And I get the "hordes of zombies" trope, but really... the movie goes out of it's way to establish how desolate and vacant the tenement is, so where the fuck do the 100's and 100's of zombies roaming outside come from? There are numerous shots that establish the city is at least a few miles away, and there's nothing anywhere near the unpopular, relatively deserted building in which the characters all become trapped. It's just too sloppy.
