NORML PodCast

Meh.

Summary

The number one thing you notice about this podcast is the 10+ minute lead in--the hosts speaking schedule, shout out to NORML chapters, etc. Spending 20% of the show on this kind of stuff is not a problem, but doing it all up-front in one chunk is silly. It's not only concentrated boredom, but it's placed in the worst possible place. If you want to "get the word out", it would be more effective and more palatable. My preference would be to put it at the end so I could skip it most easily.

They open the show highlighting the interviews they do, which is what I really wanted from the show, but so far, no love. 10 minutes intro, 15 minute of mostly non-news and predictable commentary ("headline: status quo still against pot," comment: "blame prohibition!"). This is followed by often mediocre music terrible music.

I expect that some of the interviews and such are pretty good. On the first one I listened to, though, the tail of the show was a replay of some not terrible, but not particularly good speaking giving a pretty predictable speech to some random NORML gathering somewhere. There were some good points in the thing, but my big issue with the show is that there was about 5 minutes of interesting content in a 60 minute format.

That's the thing: the show is just way to long. I would think it's pretty clear there isn't enough news nor enough interesting speeches happening to support a daily 60 minute podcast on most subjects, and legalization of pot is, at the end of the day, not the most active subject out there to begin with.

Take the best music, best interviews for and do a weekly 60 minute show, and you've maybe got something.
