Obama at 125
From Zanecorpwiki
125 days in and I'm pretty much done with Obama. On the plus side, I'm fairly certain he's going to be a better president than I've had in my living memory. On the down side, that isn't a particularly high bar to cross.
After the first week, I was guardedly, but also very optimistic. Obama's pronouncements on transparency went to the heart of the biggest problems with our nation and, as far as I was and am concerned, would have put us on the path to the best and only for humanity to reach it's potential.
Since then, Obama has had a very fuzzy record. While there were many bold statements, and some early action, there have since been a number of significant reversals. All in all, the Obama administration seems to be slightly failing on issues of transparency and accountability. This especially worrisome since the most positive news occurred early on and the most worrisome news more recently. Plus, a lot of the early good news was more talk than action.
What's strangest to me is where Obama fails on the simplest of pledges--like giving the public five days to review new legislation. Unless we're talking emergency relief for a Katrina-like disaster, there is no law that can't wait five days to be passed. Certainly a credit reform law can wait a work week to go into effect.
All in all, there is a worrisome trend. Not that things will get worse than they are, but that after 8 years of a man regarded by many to be one of the worst presidents of all time. Which brings us back to the idea that while Obama looks very positive to many in the current context, I don't think one can make an argument that there's much hope that he will be a great president.
