Road to Perdition
From Zanecorpwiki
Summary
This was an easy movie to watch. Not that it was candy, not that the subject matter wasn't tough. But the movie has a flow to it. A mob movie with heart.
As much as anything else, it's the scope of the movie which makes it work. It's a story about a man trying to live his life as best he can in a world that makes it hard for men to lead good lives.
Details and Notes
Spoilers.
Tom Hanks makes this movie because he can't be anyone but Tom Hanks. He's not a tough guy, he's a guy that's been made to be tough. The blurb from Dish Network says, A mobster takes his son along as he seeks revenge... but that's not right. The magic of the movie is that it isn't revenge. It's simply what needs to be done.
The scene where Hanks guns down the Irish mob boss' henchmen, before crying, kills the boss himself is simply magic. It's tragic, sure, but touching. Something one would never expect to be touching, but touching none-the-less.
